Getting started

How Flume works

A stream's whole life, from registering a token to the day the vault's share stops.

Every stream goes through the same six stages. The first two happen once per token; the rest repeat each time you sell.

  1. 1RegisterOnce per token
  2. 2Build historySeven days
  3. 3QuoteAny time after
  4. 4SellTwo minutes to accept
  5. 5SplitEvery payment
  6. 6EndTerm or cap
Fees paid into the source The vault’s share, from sale to end

1. Register

A source is the account Flume splits your fees from. Only the token's current mint authority can register one, and once it exists, its creator, token and vault can never change. See Register your token.

2. Build a week of history

Fees reach the source through Flume's receipt instruction, in USDC or SOL, and each payment is recorded on chain with the time it arrived. Before any sale, every fee is yours and waits in the source until you claim it.

A source can be quoted once it has seven full days on record, with USDC fees on at least four of those days. See Pay fees in.

3. Quote

Pick a share and a term. Flume runs the last seven days of USDC fees across the term, takes your share of that, and offers a quarter of it. Limits on the vault's cash and on any one creator's exposure can lower the price, and the app shows which limit, if any, set it. See Pricing.

4. Sell

You sign a short request in your wallet. Flume answers with a firm quote: a purchase transaction already signed by the vault's quote key and good for two minutes. Your browser decodes it and checks the price, share, term, cap and payee against what you asked for. You sign, and the USDC is in your wallet when the transaction confirms. See Get a quote and sell.

5. Split

From the moment of sale, every payment into the source is split in the same transaction that brings it.

A 1,000 USDC payment while a 30% stream is open

700 USDC
Stays in the source for you to claim
300 USDC
Goes to the vault’s cash in the same transaction

The vault's USDC goes straight to the vault's cash. Your side stays in the source, and you can claim it at any time.

6. End

The vault's share stops at the end of the term or once it has received its cap, twice the price, whichever comes first. Fees after that are entirely yours. Anyone can then settle the stream, which closes it on chain and lets the source sell again. See Claim and settle.

If fees fall short of the price, the vault keeps what it received and carries the difference. There is no debt and nothing to repay.
